At the Delta of Niger River in Nigeria, where a vast proportion of planet's oil is excavated, bomb attacks, abductions and murders form part of daily routine. The documentary portrays the image of "development", the way giant multinational petroleum companies would define it. Petroleum leaks in the River destroy flora and fauna, poison the food chain and consequently wipe out the 27 million indigenous people of the area - the Ijaws, the Ogoni and the Itsekiris. The inhabitants dare to ask the self-evident, they demand an end to it. As a response they are massively and brutally attacked by special forces of the army and the police, which are armed by the oil companies. The camera meets at the river militia of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta-MEND- and presents to the world for the first time shattering images of their speed boat patrols and of their heavy weaponry. The Delta of Niger is a lost paradise. As the documentary reveals, it is a place where despite the natural beauty, contemporary "globalized" hell prevails. 67 MINUTES, AVAILABLE VERSIONS: Greek, English, French. Winner FIPA D'ARGENT - Festival International de Programmes Audiovisuels, Biarritz France January 2007 Winner JUNIOR JURY AWARD - 5th International Film Festival and Forum on Human Rights (FIFDH), Geneva Switzerland March 2007

Outrageously sad. The West's news stations would rather give their spare time covering the most idiotic of frivolous news stories rather than cover this ecological disaster deliberately caused by these scumbag oil companies.

I support the militants. Nigerian govt is worse than rubbish. Stop cheating our Niger Delta people. They drill our crude oil and leave our poor innocent people in messy situations. I hate the govt and the politicians with passion. I wish we can have our a Niger Delta sovereign state.

I support Mend 100%. Keep on fighting until those oil companies pay for what they did to your land. Heartless individuals. Devils come in everyshape or form and this oil companies and our government is OUR DEVIL. Fuck Oil companies in Nigeria. May God punish all of you. May the gods of Niger-delta punish all of you.Ever since this oil companies came to Nigeria, Niger-delta that used to be a rich enviromental place now looks like a mess.
Ifygurl (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
Why do you people keep giving the wrong information? What job? What schooling has any oil companies provided? What scholarship? Abeg stop lying especially when thousands of people living in Niger-delta how wrong your statement is.

Even though i don't support any Nigerian government but how can they fixed this when anytime a Nigerian governor tries to fight this oil companies. Shell or Chervon or whoever pays someone to kidnap or kill the governor. The only way Nigerian government can stop this idiota is all Nigerian politicians bond together and fight them but they won't. When one individual that's a Nigerian politician tries to fight them; the oil companies pays someone to kill that politician.

P.S: What infrastruvture are oil company trying to fixed. Do you mean that hospital they built? Umm last time i checked, the hospital barely have patients. The reason why is because everything in the hospiatal is outdated. We are not blaming anyone. We are blaming the RIGHT people (oil companies and our government). Men i can't till Mend get rid of you all.

Your an idiot. WE NEVER WANTED TO DRILL OUR OILS YOU IDIOT. aND WE STILL DON'T WANT TO DRILL IT. All Oil companies need to get the HELL out of Nigeria.Aliko Dangote(a Nigerian billonaire) has an oil company. He drill in Niger delta and other place. His the only oil company who actually do it right. He doesn't hurt the villagers, he cleans up the oil spills his company does. all FOREIGN OIL COMPANY are nothing but corrupt individuals who need to GET THE FUCK OUT OF OUR LAND.
